Mere hours after it was learned that Thiago Taveres had been forced out of his Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale matchup against Melvin Guillard due to an elbow injury, Gleison Tibau has been tapped to square off with Guillard in a lightweight contest on June 20th in Las Vegas.

MMAjunkie first reported the replacement earlier this afternoon.

After losing back-to-back UFC bouts to Tyson Griffin and Joe Stevenson, Tibau (16-6) has bounced back in 2009 with victories over Rich Clementi and Jeremy Stephens.

With Efrain Escudero out with an injury the UFC went about finding a replacement to face Jeremy Stephens at Fight Night 18 on April 1st. It didn’t take long to find that fighter as MMAWeekly.com reports that Gleison Tibau has stepped up to face Stephens at the event. It will make for the same turnaround time for both fighters from the last time they faced action, as both were in action at Fight Night 17 last month.

Stephens came up short as a last minute replacement for Hermes Franca against Joe Lauzon, succumbing to the highly talented lightweight in the night’s main event. Tibau, on the other hand, was on the victorious side of things, submitting Rich Clementi in the first round.

Fight Night 18: Condit vs. Kampmann will serve as the live lead in to the ninth season debut of The Ultimate Fighter. The show airs live on Spike TV on April 1st.

Former WWE star and MMA rookie Bobby Lashley (1-0) will meet UFC hall-of-famer Ken Shamrock (27-13-2) at the March 21 “March Bandess” event.

The hybrid MMA/boxing card, promoted by the event’s boxing headliner Roy Jones Jr. and his Square Ring Promotions company, takes place at the Pensacola Civic Center in Florida and airs on pay per view.

Sources close to both fighters told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) bout agreements were today signed for the heavyweight fight.

The fight was first reported by bloodyelbow.com.

Lashley, a two-time NAIA national wrestling champion who wrestled with the WWE from 2005 to 2008, made his MMA debut in December. There, the American Top Team product scored a swift 41-second TKO of Joshua Franklin.

He’ll now meet Shamrock, a longtime MMA fighter who recently snapped a five-fight, four-and-a-half-year losing streak with a first-round TKO of super heavyweight Ross Clifton. The 45-year-old will go for his first back-to-back wins since stoppages of Brian Johnston and Alexander Otsuka in 1996 and 2000.

Set to headline the MMA portion of the March 21 card is Seth Petruzelli (10-4), who recently knocked out Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson before EliteXC’s ultimate demise. Petruzelli fights for the first time since the October event, and he’ll take on former WEC light-heavyweight champion Doug “Rhino” Marshall (9-3).

In other action, former top UFC heavyweight contender Jeff Monson (27-8) takes on IFL heavyweight champion Roy “Big Country” Nelson (13-3).

On the boxing portion of the card, Jones (52-5), an eight-time world champion and former Olympian, takes on Omar Sheika (27-8) in a light-heavyweight contest.

Headliner and main-event winner Frank Trigg earned an event-high $10,000 base salary for his victory over Danny Babcock at Xtreme Cagefighting Federation’s recent “Rumble In Race Town” event.

The young Intimidation Cage Fighting organization is coming to Cincinnati with a lineup full of former UFC fighters.

“ICF: Breakout,” which takes place April 11 at U.S. Bank Arena in downtown Cincinnati, is headlined by former UFC competitor and “The Ultimate Fighter 4″ cast member Shonie Carter (46-18-7) vs. undefeated Cincinnati fighter Victor O’Donnell (5-0).

Fellow UFC vets Dan Christison, Marcio “Pe de Pano” Cruz, Luke Zachrich and Jeff Cox are also booked for the event.

Carter, who went 3-3 during five different stints with the UFC, is 7-2 since his last fight with the organization (a unanimous-decision loss to Marcus Davis in December 2006). “Mr. International” now faces O’Donnell, who’s 5-0 as a pro following a 4-0 mark as an amateur. The bout will take place at a catch-weight of 175 pounds.

In the night’s heavyweight co-main-event attraction, Christison (13-6), a cast member from “The Ultimate Fighter 2″ who’s 5-0 since late 2007, meets Cruz (4-2), a jiu-jitsu ace who scored a first-round TKO victory over Frank Mir during a 2-2 stretch in the UFC.

Also in action is “The Ultimate Fighter 7″ cast member (and former MMAjunkie.com “TUF” blogger) Zachrich (8-1), who looks for his sixth straight win when he takes on fellow middleweight Jonathan Hines (0-0).

In a lightweight match-up, Cox (10-6), who’s fought with the UFC, EliteXC, King of the Cage and Adrenaline MMA, takes on Cincinnati fighter Chad Hinton (4-0), who’s undefeated since turning pro last year.

The show is scheduled to feature a total of seven amateur fights and eight pro bouts.

The ICF event is another major one for Ohio, whose athletic commission regulated more MMA shows in 2008 than any other state. It also marks the first Ohio show for the ICF, which to date, has held six events in Kentucky at Turfway Park.

U.S. Bank Arena hasn’t hosted a major MMA event since UFC 77, an October 2007 event headlined by Anderson Silva vs. Rich Franklin II. The event drew 16,054 fans for a $2.5 million gate.

“We are thrilled to be hosting ‘ICF: Breakout,’” stated U.S. Bank Arena Vice President and General Manager Kristin Ropp. “The Tri-State region, particularly Cincinnati, has proven to be a strong hotbed of MMA fans. We were honored to host UFC 77 and feel that ICF will pick up right where the UFC left off.”

Tickets for “ICF: Breakout,” which range from $38 to $78, are now on sale through Ticketmaster.

Frank Trigg left the cage with his hand raised but not before Real Fighting Championships middleweight titleholder Danny Babcock announced himself as a future player on the national stage.

Trigg (19-6) needed every bit of his big-fight experience, as he pulled out a unanimous decision against Babcock in the featured attraction at Xtreme Cagefighting Federation “Rumble in Racetown” on Saturday at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla. Scores were 29-28, 30-27 and 29-28 in Trigg’s favor.

Afterward, the UFC and Pride Fighting Championships veteran bid farewell to the middleweight division.

“This is my last fight at 185,” he said. “I can’t support the weight. I’ve got to go back to welterweight. That’s the best weight for me and my size.”

Trigg — who suffered three of his six career losses to UFC welterweight stalwarts Matt Hughes and Georges St. Pierre — took the best Babcock had to offer and kept coming forward. After some shaky moments in the first round, he commanded the center of the cage and controlled the bout with cleaner, more accurate strikes.

The bout ended in a hail of blows, as both men went out swinging. Trigg dropped Babcock (5-2), a man more than a decade his junior, with a short right hook in the closing moments and followed up with a stout left hand on the ground as the bell sounded. Had the sand not run out of the hourglass, Babcock might not have survived.

Trigg — who has won four straight fights since his devastating knockout loss to Robbie Lawler two years ago — credited his cornermen for making valuable in-fight adjustments.

“I have a great corner,” he said. “They see what I can’t see. You’ve got to really trust your corner. That’s something I never did until my last two or three fights.”

In the co-main event, little-known Zak Cummings stunned UFC veteran Terry Martin by split decision. All three judges scored the match 29-28, two of them in the unbeaten Cummings’ favor.

After a competitive first round, Cummings gained a foothold in the match. His relentless pursuit of takedowns finally paid off when he grounded Martin in the second, mounted the hard-hitting Chicagoan twice and nearly finished him with a rear-naked choke. The round ended with Cummings in full mount, the tide having clearly turned in his favor.

Martin (18-7) scored with takedowns of his own in the third but did little else. His fearsome hands, which have given him knockouts in almost half of his professional fights, were never a factor. The 28-year-old former light heavyweight has lost two straight and five of his past eight bouts.

The victory put an elated Cummings (9-0) on the map.

“He’s a tough guy, strong, quick,” he said. “I just tried to give the fans their money’s worth, win or lose. Just keep bringing on the bigger and better guys. I don’t want an easy fight.”

Blood flowed freely in a welterweight matchup between UFC exile Jesse Taylor and Gert Kocani.

Taylor manhandled the overmatched American Top Team prospect, ultimately submitting Kocani (1-1) with a second-round rear-naked choke. A winner in three straight since his submission loss to C.B. Dollaway at UFC Fight Night 14, Taylor appears to have turned a corner.

Based out of Team Quest, Taylor (9-3) took down Kocani at will and unleashed a consistent stream of ground-and-pound punishment that took considerable steam out of his less experienced counterpart. Kocani threatened with armbars and triangles from his back in the first round, but by the time the fight spilled into the second, he was no longer dangerous.

Taylor eventually mounted Kocani, who surrendered his back in futile defense. From there, the finish was a formality. The 26-year-old Taylor cinched the rear-naked choke for the tapout with 15 seconds left in the second period.

“I’m ready for anybody at 170,” Taylor said. “Wherever they can show me the money, that’s where I want to go.”

Former NFL lineman Marcus Jones put his Samsonesque strength to optimum use in his brief confrontation with John Juarez.

Jones (4-2) moved immediately to the clinch and cut Juarez near the left eye early in their heavyweight encounter. After Juarez staggered Jones — a 6-foot-6 defensive lineman on the Tampa Bay team that won the Super Bowl in 2003 — the former professional football player lodged an immediate retort. A devastating right-left combination flattened Juarez and brought an abrupt but decisive end to their match just 99 seconds into the first round.

“He kept coming,” said Jones, now half a dozen professional fights into his mixed martial arts endeavor. “He hits like a brick house. He got me a couple of times.”

The 35-year-old Jones has rattled off consecutive victories since his knockout loss to Daniel Perez at a World Fighting Championships show in March. A former first-round draft choice out of the University of North Carolina, Jones spent his entire six-year career with the Buccaneers. The Rob Kahn protégé seems to have transitioned well to MMA.

“I feel good,” he said. “I’m working hard and improving. I know I’m just starting out.”

Meanwhile, Todd Cutler dispatched Jeremy May — the trash talker from season seven of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series — and barely broke a sweat in doing so.

Cutler (3-0) kept his perfect record intact, as he swarmed May from the outset. He mounted the Ocala, Fla., native twice before finishing him with punches from the top. Cutler pounded away at his prey, as May (5-6) shuttered amid an endless barrage of strikes and left the referee no choice but to step in on his behalf. The end came 4:07 into round one.

In a one-sided featherweight affair, Gilbert Burgos smashed through Chris Thorne quickly, as he scored with a trip takedown, moved immediately to side mount and landed a crippling elbow that sliced open Thorne’s face. The cage-side doctor entered soon after and, with blood pouring from the wound, judged Thorne to be unfit to continue. Spawned by the Florida-based Real Fighting Championships promotion, Burgos (4-0) remains unbeaten as a professional.

Finally, Ryan Keenan stopped “The Ultimate Fighter” alumnus and American Top Team product Blake Bowman on a volley of first-round ground strikes.

In the final minute of round one, Keenan (3-0) grounded Bowman, secured back control and flattened out the Georgian, leaving him with precious little room to defend. Unanswered strikes against the cage brought an end to the battle 4:29 after it began.

ATO has learned that Georges St. Pierre will face Thiago Alves at UFC 100 for the UFC Welterweight title. Our source within the UFC said that the bout hasn’t been signed but was almost certain it was a lock for the big event in July. There have been rumors this fight would take place this summer ever since UFC 94 when Alves challenged GSP after the controversial fight with BJ Penn.

St. Pierre has been unstoppable ever since his loss to Matt Serra at UFC 69. He’s walked through everyone in the division; Serra, Koscheck, Fitch, Hughes, and BJ Penn. The fight with Penn as everyone knows has caused rules to be changed and caused the Nevada State Athletic Commission to launch an investigation into the alleged “greasing” at UFC 94.

Alves has won seven straight fights with impressive knockouts of Matt Hughes and Karo Parisyan. As a matter of fact, five of the last seven fights has ended via KO. He recently defeated Josh Koscheck via unanimous decision at UFC 90 last October.

If GSP were to win it would most likely set up a dream match with Anderson Silva in late 2009 or early 2010.
