Georges St. Pierre vs. Thiago Alves at UFC 100

February 15th, 2009 · No Comments

ATO has learned that Georges St. Pierre will face Thiago Alves at UFC 100 for the UFC Welterweight title. Our source within the UFC said that the bout hasn’t been signed but was almost certain it was a lock for the big event in July. There have been rumors this fight would take place this summer ever since UFC 94 when Alves challenged GSP after the controversial fight with BJ Penn.

St. Pierre has been unstoppable ever since his loss to Matt Serra at UFC 69. He’s walked through everyone in the division; Serra, Koscheck, Fitch, Hughes, and BJ Penn. The fight with Penn as everyone knows has caused rules to be changed and caused the Nevada State Athletic Commission to launch an investigation into the alleged “greasing” at UFC 94.

Alves has won seven straight fights with impressive knockouts of Matt Hughes and Karo Parisyan. As a matter of fact, five of the last seven fights has ended via KO. He recently defeated Josh Koscheck via unanimous decision at UFC 90 last October.

If GSP were to win it would most likely set up a dream match with Anderson Silva in late 2009 or early 2010.
